NEXTBUS™ QR INNOVATION - A USE CASE


 

Nextbus QR sign for bus stops is a digital passenger information infrastructure innovation to promote public transport systems and improve the quality of city life. Passengers can simply scan the QR code at bus stops to know bus arrivals there (based on Parrot Eye ANPR AI cameras installed at major bus stations or GPS), train arrivals in nearby railway stations, taxis and rickshaws circulating around, various services availability around, emergency services etc.

Busparrot implemented Nextbus QR codes and completely digitally transformed the public transport system at 5 local bodies in Palakkad district and implementation progress in around 50 local bodies. We have been shortlisted for solution development and implementation stage 2 of Transport4All by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs which brings together cities, citizens, and startups to develop solutions that improve public transport to better serve the needs of all.

 

 

 

Use Case: Disha Commutes to Work Efficiently with Busparrot Nextbus QR

Characters:

  • Disha: A young professional who relies on public transport for her daily commute.

  • Nextbus QR: A QR code displayed at bus stops for real-time information access

Scenario:

Disha wakes up for work and checks the Busparrot app. It's a rainy morning, and she's worried about potential bus delays.

  1. Live Bus Tracking: Disha opens the Busparrot app and uses her location to see the real-time location of the approaching bus. This helps her decide when to leave for the bus stop to avoid getting caught in the rain for too long.

  2. Nextbus QR Confirmation: Disha reaches the bus stop and notices the Nextbus QR code displayed on the signboard post. She quickly scans the QR code with her phone's camera.

  3. Real-time Bus Information: The Busparrot app refreshes with the latest information specific to that bus stop. Disha can see the confirmed arrival time of the next bus, taking into account any delays due to rain or traffic.

  4. Alternative Options: If the wait time for the bus is long, Disha can explore alternative options displayed on the app. This might include:

    • Live train schedules in nearby stations if the app detects a train station nearby and it's a viable alternative for her journey.

    • Availability of taxis circulating around the area, allowing her to hail a cab if needed.

  5. Planning Ahead: Disha can also browse through various services available in the vicinity, like electricians, plumbers, or even coconut harvesters (depending on Busparrot's local partnerships). This can be helpful for scheduling appointments after work.

  6. Emergency Information: In case of any emergencies, Disha can easily access crucial information through the Busparrot app. This might include the nearest hospitals, police stations, fire stations, and ambulance services.
